Values as core business of your company

Values as core business of your company

Company values matter. Every successful company has a set of company values to assist their employees in achieving their goals as well as the company’s. They are the essence of the company’s identity and summarizes the purpose of their existence.

Company values are a guide on how the company should run and they are normally integrated in the company’s mission statement.

Companies should try to establish their company values as a team instead of just the leader or management. By doing so, everyone in the company would feel belong and they would feel needed and not neglected.

A business without core values isn’t really a business. How can you build great teams, deliver an excellent customer service and foster innovation if you haven’t defined and shared your company values with your employees?

How to get started

First, start by identifying the behaviors you would most like to see your employees display day-to-day. Are you an organization built on collaboration? Hard work? Determination?

Do you value a fun and quirky atmosphere or a driven and focused atmosphere? The best way to find answers to get your executive team together and discuss what makes your company great. Start by having each executive highlight three employees they manage and how those employees exemplify behaviors you want to see more of at your company. Talk through specifically what makes these employees outstanding and outline these qualities.

Here are some ideas for questions you can ask your leadership team:

  • Who at our company do you think stands out as a top performer? Why?
  • What do you love about working for our company?
  • What behaviors do you see day-to-day at our company that inspire you?
  • What differentiates us from our competitors?
  • How would you describe our current company culture?
  • Take notes during the interviews and observe how leadership talks about your company. Do they bring up certain themes and topics often? If so, you can use these to shape your core values.

Your core values shape your company culture in many ways, so be sure to spend time on defining them.

Having said that, here are our top core values every organization should have:

  1. Integrity
  2. Boldness
  3. Honesty
  4. Trust
  5. Accountability
  6. Commitment to Customers
  7. Passion
  8. Fun
  9. Humility
  10. Continuous Learning

Your values are what make you. They define your core mindset and your will to achieve success. Without any values in life, you cannot become the person you desire to be and keep on continuously improving. In that very same way, company values are the pillars of a foundation and the guiding principles. Without good core values, your organization will not be able to achieve the goals and in the long run, it will affect the company in a negative way.

So, try to keep positive, good and clean values before you adhere to them and see how your organization flourishes with all the success.
