Science can’t be wrong, 5 ways to be happier at work
It is well known already that we are all responsible for our own happiness. We can expect it to be provided by our family, our partners, our friendships and much less our job.
As much as it is true that if you are lucky enough to have a job that you love, is much easier to enjoy the time you devote to your profession, it is just as true that every job has it challenges and difficulties that can definitely bring down our joy and excitement when it comes to going to work.
That is why, the same way that we (or we should do) with our relationship, they most important thing we can do for our happiness when it comes to our work, is to be intentional and aware of our own energy and attitude.
Being intentional simply means looking for that happiness and joys in every action that involves our job and establish a positive vibe about it so our search for happiness is stronger than the negativity that our job can sometimes bring along.
So, to help you achieve the happiness you need to complete your life and feel motivated when it comes to work, here is our best 5 ways to be happier at work.
-
Start your day with a positive attitude
The mood that you start your day with, will most likely define the mood that you will carry through the rest of your day at work.
Knowing this, the best thing we can do is devote some time in the morning to allow ourselves to do something that set us up in a positive mood. Take the time to enjoy your breakfast and walk outside before you start your workday. Give the day some time to feel good about your life and yourself and use that positive energy when you get to work.
-
Don’t overwhelm yourself with a million decisions
If there is something that brings us all a lot of anxiety when it comes to work is the decision making process and the pressure or choosing the right answer every time.
As much as this is impossible to avoid sometimes, it is important to learn to prioritize the decisions that need to be made, when and how, to make sure that we tackle the most important ones on time and we don’t get overwhelmed with.
You can also avoid little time consuming decisions by establishing a routing. This, as much as they might seem insignificant, has proven to lift some of that stress of your day.
-
Feel useful; help your coworkers
Yes, helping people makes us feel better about ourselves and therefore happier.
As much as it might sound a bit selfish (help someone to feel happier yourself) it won’t only help you feel more inspired and involved with your work, but it will also help to create a positive dynamic at the office that will definitely have an impact in your happiness and your coworker’s happiness.
-
Divide your tasks and acknowledge your accomplishments
It is easy to feel overwhelmed when we have tons of things to do, specially the ones that are long time-consuming things. We might feel sometimes as though we never finish doing anything.
Instead of letting that negativity in, break down your daily tasks in a list and also include some small things that need to be done that might not be too big, but necessary. At the end of the day, take a minute to go through the list and congratulate yourself for what you achieved that day, even if that means that you only started doing one of the bigger tasks.
-
Take a minute to be grateful at the end of each day at work
It might sound cheesy, but it is not. At the end of the day is important to remember that we are lucky, we have a job and we are good to work, and that is a good reason to be thankful.
But also, it is a good idea to take a minute each day to find at least one thing that we are happy and thankful about the work we have done that day, and focus on that, let the positive things come with you and avoid focusing on the negative.
