How to lead your team to success
Leaders are hard to find. They exhibit a unique blend of charisma, vision and character traits that attract people to follow them. Respected leaders know that they can’t just walk into a room and say, “Hey I’m the leader.
Leaders understand that to actually lead most effectively and successfully, they need to know how to lead their team to success. Leading successful teams takes persistence and a consistent pursuit of personal and professional development.
Here are five tips for leading your team to success.
Give them the freedom to use their talents. The best leaders step aside and allow those on their team to do what they do best. Control leads to compliance, but autonomy leads to engagement and, in return, unleashing greatness.
Be respectful. Fancy internal awards and recognition is great, and some employees feed off that, but your team will perform much better when they know that they have your respect.
Show respect for their hard work and dedication, it will create a much more productive team.
Be decisive. When it comes time to make a decision you have just do it. Your growth and success is dependant upon action.
Procrastination will slow you down. If you demonstrate decisive actions your team will develop the same decision-making skills.
Guide them to work together toward a compelling vision. Working toward a common vision is the beginning of progress for any team, and a sure sign that they’re on the road to success.
When your team learns to work together and not as a group of individuals pulling in different directions, things start to find meaning. It’s amazing what you can accomplish when you work together toward a shared compelling vision.
Be transparent. A good leader allows his or her team to see who they really are. There are no smoke and mirrors, what you see is what you get. Transparency also leads to problems being solved faster and a stronger level of trust being established between the leader and his or her team.
These five elements of leadership are not easy to execute on a consistent basis. It requires a daily focus and attention. Asking yourself, with each move and decision you make, am I being the best possible leader I can right now? If not, adjust accordingly.
