Trends in Cybersecurity
As technology and the use of the Internet become more complex, cybersecurity is detrimental for any business and organization to stay alive and not succumb to cyber threats. Staying ahead of the curve is the best, and most effective way, to ensure the safety of your company and its data.
There were many data breaches in 2018, and the cybersecurity world is making sure to improve itself in this coming year.
Here are a few trends in cybersecurity that you should watch out for in 2019.
-
Cybercrime-as-a-Service
We are all used to hearing by now about data breaches and other cyber attacks; but one bad trend that everybody in the tech industry should be watching out for is cybercrime-as-a-service, or CaaS. This service is giving hackers a wide range of tools that they would have had to create for themselves before. Having these tools at the tips of their fingers brings many more risks and possible attacks to businesses and other major institutions around the world.
Amongst the tools that are included in these websites, ransomware has seen the largest growth in the CaaS world. Ransomware has seen a huge growth and it doesn’t show any signs of slowing down.

Cybersecurity Regulations
Creating better regulatory restrictions will help ensure the safe keeping of a company’s data, as well as governments. Even though regulations are a slow moving vehicle, it’s important to make sure that there is regulation in place that can help keep everybody’s data private. Regulations have been put in place already, but there need to be better and stronger regulations. The new regulations that are being put into place are starting to put on big penalties for the companies that aren’t complying with the regulations.
Combining government regulation and the technology that is already around, will help keep a companies data secure. Governmental bodies have already started to adapt to these regulations, but it is taking private companies a bit longer to comply with these regulations.
-
Internet Connected Devices
Many of the newest consumer and business devices that are hitting the market can be connected to the Internet of Things. This is a vast network of interconnected devices that work and support each other. Since these devices are slow to update and perform security checks, it’s easy for them to become cybersecurity threats. With the growing dependence on everything being interconnected, this poses many issues for businesses across the globe.
These hacked devices become a gateway into the rest of the server, which then can make it harder for people trying to stop cyber attacks much more difficult. The growth of the devices connected to each other in the consumer sector will make it much easier for a back door to be opened without anybody knowing.

IT Skills Gap
With the realization that IT professionals are more in demand than ever, there’s likely to be a gap in the professionals that can actually get the job done that companies will need. The pool is already small, and it will only get smaller as more and more professionals are whisked away to certain companies that need their expertise. There are some predictions that there is going to be global shortage of two million cybersecurity professionals by 2019. This is only making companies panic more and more.
With the amount of data breaches increasing every year, there is a growing demand for cybersecurity professionals. Since it can be difficult for companies to keep up with the many different ways that there can be a cyber attack, positions like these will continue to become more and more in demand and profitable.
