5 tips to create home office (and being productive!)

home office

If you work from home, almost all your life will happen at home, also the central part of your work life. It could mean kitchen table but usually is recommended to have an specific room to increase your productivity, or at least a table beside the dinning / kitchen table.

If you work from home or telecommute occasionally, you’ve probably struggled at some point with the multitude of distractions and temptations a home office offers. As some of our World Wide Team work from home, there it goes some of their tips to increase your productivity if you work from home.

1. Set Your Office up to work better

Make it simple but significant: paint your space with a soothing color you enjoy, it is recommended green because it is related to productivity. Make sure your space has a window to avoid the feeling spending your day in a cave. Put some natural elements around, plants or a small fountain outside the window, if possible, to give yourself something non-distracting and peaceful to look at. Obsiously create the space that you need to do your work.

2. Keep Your Distractions Around

Working home can be dangerous because distractions can kill productivity or… you can be so focused that you will forget to have some need brain-breaks. After a period of concentration reward yourself with short breaks, but keep your favorite distraction around, so you are not tempted of doing anything else. Also is important to take eye breaks, it is hard to remember to do it regularly, so make a real effort here and see how it works for you. It will help you to keep you focused after the break.

3. Get Comfortable

Invest in a good office chair and make sure you’re sitting in an ergonomically correct position at your desk. If you get really uncomfortable sitting too long, try a standing desk in one corner of the room.

4. Declutter Ruthlessly and Often

Make it a habit to purge your home office of paper piles, books, paperwork, cups or your children toys and whatever is taking space and serving for nothing.

5. Work with Purpose.

Make a list of tasks you need to complete every day–and then do it. Make sure everything you need to get your work done is available to you, whether in your office or on the computer. Cross items off the list as you go.

An well, an extra but really important tip: dress like a grown up that is going to work. Force yourself to get up and get ready for a regular work day, E-V-E-R-Y D-A-Y.  Seriously, put your pants on.
